Brendan Rodgers “incredibly disappointed” over Liverpool sacking
Fenway Sports Group made a decision to call an end to Rodgers’ three years in charge of the club on Sunday evening, axing the 42-year-old following their draw in the 225th Merseyside derby.

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is already being linked with new roles – and one bookmaker has Newcastle United as the current favourite destination for the ex-Swansea City manager.
Brendan Rodgers has spoken for the first time since his sacking as Liverpool manager on Sunday.
“Every one of us have encountered a few magnificent minutes with Brendan as manager of the Liverpool football club and we are sure he will appreciate a long vocation in the amusement”, the FSG’s owners team said.
It is believed Liverpool hope to have a new man in place for when the players return from worldwide duty so he is given the best possible chance to get off to a good start away at Tottenham on October 17.
Rodgers, speaking on the LMA’s website, said: “I am, of course, incredibly disappointed to be leaving Liverpool Football Club”.
Several news outlets, including Sky and the BBC, reported that Klopp was the frontrunner, having led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final appearance in 2013. From there to now I don’t really see much progression. The Northern Irishman was shown the exit door after a string of poor performances by Liverpool in all competitions this season.
Germany’s former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes ex-Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp is the “ideal” candidate to replace manager Brendan Rogers.
Carragher said: “I think with either of those coming to Liverpool, the Liverpool supporters would be ecstatic: Carlo Ancelotti a Champions League victor three times, and we know what Klopp did at Borussia Dortmund”. The fans stay with everything behind the club and this is what Jurgen Klopp likes and what he needs.
FSG’s statement accompanying the announcement Rodgers had been dismissed talks of decisive action, but in truth it is a significant U-turn as they backed him in June when it had seemed easier to get rid of him.
Redknapp echoed Carragher’s comments and urged Liverpool hierarchy to appoint Klopp as Rodgers’ successor. He was closest certainly to winning the Premier League of all the managers that have been working for the club, but that is the way it goes now and I wish him good luck.
“They can go out and buy the best players in the world”.
Liverpool need a manager who is big enough to handle the pressure, without thinking he is bigger than the club.
Rodgers’s replacement, when he is appointed, will work within the existing structure and what has become known as Anfield’s “transfer committee”.
