Following back-to-back withdrawals due to a nagging wrist injury, Jim Furyk will not play in the Presidents Cup next week.

Less than one week before the opening session of the Presidents Cup, Jim Furyk announced he won’t be able to compete for the United States because of a lingering wrist injury. J.B. Holmes will replace him on the US roster.
The Presidents Cup, a Ryder Cup-style team matchplay tournament, is to be held at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon, South Korea from October 8-11, the first time the event has been held in Asia.
Furyk will still travel to South Korea as a fourth captain’s assistant, alongside Fred Couples, Davis Love III and Steve Stricker.
Furyk typically doesn’t play much in the fall, and he said that would give his wrist time to heal.
Holmes will be making his President’s Cup debut after being a part of the 2008 Ryder Cup team.
“Jim did everything he could to be ready, and I’m sad that he won’t be able to play”, Haas said in a statement about Furyk, who would have been playing in his eighth Presidents Cup. “Obviously, he has been a leader for our team for many years, and he will be greatly missed”.
The skipper says he has already spoken to who he would select if Furyk was absent, although he has refused to name the player publicly.
“He has plane reservations, his clothing is being readied, if that happens”, Haas said, refusing to divulge the player’s identity.
He will be replaced on the American squad by J.B. Holmes.

Haas noted that Holmes is in good form, having logged two top 10s to end the PGA Tour’s four-event FedExCup Playoffs with a flourish and cap a successful season. “We’re all looking forward to a great week”.
