Australia’s new Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull gets opinion poll boost as
Installing lawyers in hospitals and using Global Positioning System to track violent partners are expected to be part of Malcolm Turnbull’s $41 million package to tackle domestic violence, as he prepares to make his first policy major announcement since becoming Prime Minister.

Mr Dutton rejected suggestions that Mr Turnbull’s comments indicated a change in asylum-seeker policy was being considered.
“During his first parliamentary sitting since ascending to the country’s top office overnight after a successful leadership ballot against Tony Abbott, Deputy Opposition Leader Tanya Plibersek raised the question of where he stood on the issue”.
“Australia’s new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has labelled violence against women as “one of the great shames” of Australia“, and “a national disgrace”. They were joined by newcomers Payne, Minister for Women Michaelia Cash and Minister for Small Business Kelly O’Dwyer.
The new prime minister has indicated that the government will serve out the remainder of its three-year term, which would put a new general election a year or so away. “We very much look forward to working closely with Minister Briggs to leverage the strengths of industry and every sphere of government in helping to deliver more productive, liveable and sustainable cities”. His Cabinet is younger, more moderate and contains more women than the previous Cabinet chosen by the more conservative Abbott.
It was also found that consumers’ views on their financial position compared to a year ago rose modestly. “It will probably take them a little while to find their feet but you’d expect to see a change in not only the rhetoric but also the policies need a bit of a revamp as well”, he said.
“Real men don’t hit women”, Mr Turnbull told Channel Nine’s Today show earlier this week, flagging fresh government action.
The shake-up has been welcomed in mainstream media, with The Australian noting it “is transformative, remaking the federal government at the stroke of a pen in a signature meant to “embrace” the future”. “We have to have, we must have, zero tolerance for it”. Opinion polls suggest that most Australians believe that they should have an Australian head of state.
Notably, the new Cabinet excluded several members of the “old guard” of veteran ministers who were loyal to Mr Abbott, such as former defence minister Kevin Andrews.

The United Nations and human rights groups have criticized Australia over the harsh conditions at the camps and its tough asylum-seeker policies, which Abbott defended as necessary to stop deaths at sea and often described as one of his government’s biggest achievements.
