The clearing of the track was to begin immediately, although officials did not know how long it would take before the section is reopened.

“We’re just grateful that there was no loss of life”, Vermont Gov. Peter Schumlin said in a briefing.
One locomotive and one passenger vehicle went over an embankment. Three other cars left the track but remained upright.
Officials believe about 80-100 passengers were aboard the Amtrak train when it derailed.
Twitter user Brian Bell shared photos of what appeared to be the derailed train.
A firefighter with the Montpelier Fire Department told INSIDE EDITION there were no reported fatalities after the crash near Roxbury around 10.30am, but four people had been transferred to hospital for further treatment. Of three people who died in accidents involving the railroad, two were trespassers and one was in a grade crossing accident.
The accidents included highway grade-crossing incidents.
Federal safety rules for tracks that carry passengers require at least two inspections every week. A freight train used the track Sunday night and reported no issues, a Vermont Agency of Transportation official said.
The train was scheduled to arrive at New York Penn Station at 6:25 p.m. before heading to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
Matthew Lehner, a spokesman for the Federal Railroad Administration, said it was aware of the derailment and had sent investigators to the scene.
Redmond says he looked out the window and saw the vehicle that had been ahead of his was now alongside him. Janice Bradley, another passenger, said the train was “going along and at first it felt like we ran over something”.
Bay City resident Tracy Zaplitny says she and other passengers broke a window to get out.
The derailment occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to a spokeswoman for the Montpelier Fire Department. The six others went to a local hospital with injuries including neck, back and shoulder pains and lightheadedness. She said she doesn’t expect any more patients.
