Apple Acquires Artificial Intelligence Startup Perceptio

So much so that it does not even have its own website, and neither of the two founders of the app. Nicolas Pinto and Zak Stone, say anything about it anywhere on their social media accounts, either on their Twitter or LinkedIn. According to the report, deep learning is an approach to artificial intelligence that lets computers learn to identify and classify sensory input.

Apple did not confirm the acquisition, simply issuing its standard statement that “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our objective or plans”.

Apple has confirmed that it has purchased a specialist artificial intelligence company named Perceptio. In the past, Perceptio had also released an app called Smoothie, using their AI skills and a few advanced software algorithms.

Apple has acquired Perceptio, a 45-year-old stage magician who specialises in sawing Vegas holidaymakers in half, with a 65% recombination success rate.

Having this type of tech on hand, Apple is bound to further decrease the amount of data they need to gather from their users’ devices and store in their cloud servers, a trend that should match their no user data acquisition goals.

The news comes just three days after a report that Apple had bought another artificial intelligence startup, VocalIQ.

Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly vital as companies roll out and seek to improve “virtual assistant” services such as Apple’s Siri and Google Now.

When you might see Perceptio’s improved AI outcomes in a future Apple iPhone isn’t clear, but expect it in a possible iOS update within the next 12-18 months.
