Shane Smith, a senior research fellow and North Korea expert at the National Defense University, estimates in a paper published on the website 38 North that North Korea has “enough fissile material to build anywhere from six to 30 nuclear weapons” and that it is “poised to grow its stockpile, perhaps dramatically, over the coming years”.

There she will present South Korea’s diplomatic policy to contribute to global peace and prosperity by restraining the North from developing its nuclear program and achieving peaceful reunification on the Korean Peninsula.

“I thought that by my entrance to the DPRK [the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea], illegally I acknowledge, I thought that a few great event could happen and hopefully that event could have a good effect on the relations between the north and [South Korea]”, Joo was quoted as saying. Xi has neither visited the North nor met with its young leader, Kim Jong-un, although he held a series of summit meetings with South Korean President Park Geun-hye.

In June, South Korea offered to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 37 percent by 2030 from 850.6 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, an amount Seoul says it would reach if it lets business run as usual.

Xi and Obama, however, took differing approaches to Beijing’s activities in land reclamation in disputed areas of the South China Sea.
