In response to a question from a supporter named Dan, who asked him how the tragedy in Oregon has altered his position as a Second Amendment supporter, Carson wrote, “Dan, I grew up in the slums of Detroit”.

Republican presidential contender Ben Carson says he would have sacrificed his life to help stop last week’s deadly attack in Oregon.

“If I had a little kid in kindergarten somewhere I would feel much more comfortable if I knew on that campus there was a police officer or somebody who was trained with a weapon”, he says.

Last week, Christopher Harper-Mercer, 26, killed his English professorand eight students at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg before turning a gun on himself, asking his victims before shooting them if they were Christians, and Carson said that troubles him. “I believe that in our age of political correctness, it’s especially important to defend the Bill of Rights, which guarantees our freedom to speak, bear arms, practice our religion, and much more”. President Obama called on the American people to elect representatives who would finally take action on gun control legislation, after his calls for this Congress to do something fell on deaf ears. Dr. Carson was also asked if there was a place for Trump in a Carson administration, and he was unhesitating with his answer. And that could be easily in a database. Responding to a Brian Kilmeade question about the murderer, Carson said he would not “cooperate” with such a person.

He added: “Common sense will tell you that you’re not going to put risky weapons in somebody’s hands like that”. Common sense – we don’t seem to have it anymore.

It’s the issue he tackles in his latest book, A More flawless Union: What We the People Can Do to Reclaim Our Constitutional Liberties.
