MacGyver: Reboot Series Coming To CBS
It aired on ABC for seven seasons between 1985 and 1992. He’ll be shown as a new recruit to a covert agency who is developing his unique talents and innovative brain.

The original series was created by Lee David Zlotoff and produced by Henry Winkler and John Rich, according to a report by Deadline. At this time, the MacGyver reboot hasn’t been ordered as a series, though CBS has committed to producing the pilot.
The team behind the remake include executive producers R. Scott Gemmill of “NCIS:Los Angeles” and director James Wan of “Furious 7” and “Saw” fame. Though it is unclear at this point how much they have invested in resurrecting the franchise, sources say that CBS has advanced “a hefty put-pilot commitment” for the new MacGyver.
Wan, 38, was attached to direct New Line’s long-planned “MacGyver” movie in 2012. MacGyver also went out of his way to avoid using guns or violence.
For instance, everyone has cell phones now. “He’s a smart guy, he’d be smart enough to have a cell phone”. After “MacGyver” he also starred on “Stargate SG-1” (1997-2005). It was supposed to star Jared Padalecki (“Supernatural“) but unfortunately, the project never pushed through.
CBS’s announcement that it is rebooting MacGyver comes as dozens of other properties from the 1980s and 1990s are also returning to the small screen.
In an interview earlier this year, the director expressed his excitement over a MacGyver reboot, explaining that his idea for the story involved MacGyver in “something like a North by Northwest: He gets blamed for something that he had designed, something really big that’s something everyone wanted, and now someone has weaponized it and everyone’s coming after him”.

The new MacGyver series has just entered active development, so we don’t yet know when it will actually debut, if it even makes it that far.
