We’ve heard plenty about the mid-range follow-up to the excellent OnePlus 2 already, with convincing renders and leaked benchmark specs painting a pretty detailed picture of the new phone. There will be 32 GB eMMC 5.0 storage, which will be expandable through microSDXC.
The phone has a smaller display than the OnePlus 2 at 5-inch (with a 1080p resolution), meaning it isn’t exactly the miniature device we were expecting to see from the company.
Then there will be a 3,000-3,100 mAh Li-Po non-removable battery, USB Type-C with Quick Charge 2.0, FM radio, Bluetooth 4.1, IR Blaster, a MT6630 wireless SoC, 1.2W front-facing speaker, and an NFC chip for supporting Android Pay with the help of a fingerprint sensor fitted at the back.
Further details include a 13 megapixel camera which supports 1080p recording, with the secondary camera weighing in at 5 megapixels.
OnePlus Mini has been “seemingly” confirmed to launch before end of this year and is likely to be out in-time for the Christmas holidays, according to OnePlus Co-founder Carl Pei. Interesting enough, the report says that OnePlus Mini will be water and dust resistant thanks to the IP67 certification.
The publication also claims that the OnePlus Mini could be launched as early as this month. Furthermore, the display will use PSR (Panel Self Refresh) which OnePlus calls “DRAM” (Display RAM), as well as CABC (Content Aware Backlight Control), called “Smart Screen” by MediaTek.
MediaTek might also make a kernel source code available allowing developers to build custom ROM for the smartphone.
According to same source, the OnePlus X (Mini) will be priced around $250 and will get a November or December release.
