No shots have been fired and there are no reports of injuries.

But police say that, after investigating the situation and interviewing witnesses this afternoon, they are unsure whether a gun was ever brought onto campus.

Update 11:53 a.m.: NBC is reporting the suspect is in custody, but police have not yet located the gun.

A warning message on the college’s website states: “Police activity in campus”. He added the morning’s incident had nothing to do with an Federal Bureau of Investigation advisory issued earlier in the week, which notified area colleges and universities of a social media post threatening violence against an unspecified local campus on Monday. Later, he told investigators he could identify the make and caliber of the gun, Ramsey said.

The college’s main campus will be closed for the rest of Tuesday, and will resume a normal schedule on Wednesday, the school said.

Students and staff were asked to shelter in place while police searched the campus.

Authorities say it initially appears that the incident began as an argument between the 17-year-old suspect and a student at the school. Julia R. Masterman School nearby is also on lockdown today, officials tell news.
