E Dey Happen: Arsene Wenger Absolves David Ospina Of Blame

A very prickly Arsene Wenger said it would be a “farce” to suggest that his decision to play David Ospina ahead of Petr Cech cost Arsenal the match against Olympiacos.

Arsenal will be up against Manchester United in their next league fixture this Sunday at the Emirates Stadium and Cech is likely to get his spot in the first team back for the clash. “I think you lack creativity in the media, and you follow a bandwagon that is very, very boring”.

“I don’t go along with that (criticism)”.

‘If you watched really the game and you come to the conclusion we lost because of Ospina I question your knowledge in football’.

“We didn’t make mistakes, it was just big quality from them”, Ranieri said after Arsenal beat his team 5-2 in Leicester City’s first loss of the season.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops in the coming weeks and months, but Wenger will hope to improve his side’s consistency which in turn should silence the talk of his top players leaving the club.

“I do not want to come back on that”.

Sitting bottom of the group and with a daunting double-header against Bayern Munich to come, many will be questioning whether Wenger can get out of the opening group stage having done so for the previous 16 seasons, but the Frenchman remains confident.

Wenger defended his decision after the match and insisted he did not need to explain why he had put former Chelsea man Cech on the bench for what many saw as a vital game for Arsenal.

“We lost the game because we didn’t defend well”.

“No. I don’t understand that at all“, Wenger said.

W: Like I don’t know anything that you do in your job.

Goalkeeper Ospina was preferred to number one Cech and it was his inexplicable fumble that led to the visitors’ second goal.

“You know who. The one who can speak about the referees before the game, after the game, can push people in the technical area, can moan, can cry in the morning in the afternoon, nothing happens“. He confirmed that Laurent Koscielny, Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta will all miss the United game, but Francis Coquelin should be fit.

NW: I think one of Arsenal’s problems is that they don’t have a natural leader on the pitch who can keep them together.

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny will miss Sunday’s match with Manchester United due to injury
