Fire Prevention Week kicks off Monday, October 5th, and throughout the week the Reno Fire Department will give away almost 600 free smoke alarms to those in need in the community.
This year’s fire prevention theme, from the National Fire Protection Association “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep” is an effort to ensure that people have working smoke alarms installed in their bedrooms.
Richmond Fire-Rescue, along with firefighters and personal safety advocates across North America, are joining forces with the National Fire Protection Association during Fire Prevention Week, October 4 to 10. Do you take time on a regular basis to check whether your smoke alarms are in working order, and whether you have enough in your home to do the job correctly? This, despite the fact that having a working smoke alarm doubles your chances of surviving a fire.
“Without a working smoke detector, the significance of losing your life in a fire is greatly increased”, said Bona.
If you live in an apartment with high ceilings, maintenance should check your smoke alarms once a month.
Testing those fire alarms is important as well, which is why the Humboldt Fire Department is holding an open house to the public on Thursday from 5-8pm.
Firefighters are encouraging families in Sioux City to install smoke detectors, not just on every floor, but in every bedroom as well. When replacing interconnected smoke alarms, it is advisable to replace all units in the system.
They’ll be set up in the parking lot of the Home Depot at King and Northfield educating people on the importance of Smoke Alarms from 10 am – 3pm.

This Saturday marks the beginning of Fire Prevention Week and fire departments in Gravenhurst and Orillia will be busy.
