McHenry High School District 156 teachers will go on strike Thursday, canceling classes and school services.

As for Wednesday’s strike, “We’re splitting things up a little”, Dunn said, explaining a few teachers would be at union headquarters leaving about half the number of people to walk the lines. The location was undisclosed.
Schools in McHenry High School District 156 remained closed for the fifth day in the row Wednesday due to a continuing teachers strike that began last week. “We’re really not doing anything while we’re at home”, Armond said.
Earnestine Davis, whose grandson is in kindergarten, said the strike is hurting families like hers.
Pamela Hill, who has three children in the school district and two younger children, said she has to stay home to care for her children.
“If you don’t work, you don’t get paid”, Hill said. The two sides will have a session today with a federal mediator. It does it on the backs of teachers.
Last week the teachers union voted down a tentative contract agreement that would have doubled the amount of time it would take for a teacher to the top of the pay scale.

A teachers union spokesperson previously told FOX 32 News the contract negotiations revolve around salary, salary philosophy and the insurance package. As a result, teacher pay would increase by a smaller percentage each year. The district wants to eliminate the current salary schedule.
