Jurors had deliberated for 10 hours over the course of two days to arrive at their verdict.
Disgraced ex-Boynton Beach cop Stephen Maiorino, 36, was seen bowing his head in tears upon hearing the verdicts which follow him spending almost a year behind bars for what his attorneys claimed was consensual sex.
County commissioners in Broward and Palm Beach counties both gave preliminary approval Tuesday for ordinances that would allow law enforcement officers to issue civil citations instead of filing criminal charges against people carrying 20 grams or less of marijuana.
The incident took place October 15, 2014 when the woman, who was 20 at the time, was riding passenger in a auto with a friend who had been arrested for drunk driving. Because she had no way of getting home, as the driver’s auto was towed, Maiorino was dispatched to pick her up and take her to the police station. She said she had asked her father to stop after the crash but he refused.
Lannis Waters/ZUMAPRESS.com Disgraced ex-Boynton Beach cop Stephen Maiorino, 36, is seen reacting to news of his acquittal on all four charges related to allegations that he raped a 20-year-old woman. After he was acquitted, his accuser had to be removed from the room because of her cries.
Maiorino, meanwhile, sat in a holding cell, where he returned Monday after he watched prosecutors and his lawyer stand in front of a packed courtroom and make their final arguments to the four men and two women who are now deciding his fate.
Afterwards, as she got dressed, she said that Maiorino pointed the gun at her and threatened to kill and her family if she told anyone about the assault, according to the affidavit. Maiorino, Rex said, didn’t return to collect the evidence immediately because “he thinks she’s not going to tell”.
They also said that because he did not bother cleaning up the DNA evidence from his uniform after they had sex – or try to hide the used condom later found at the scene – then it was obviously consensual.

The defense also accused the woman of making up the story to benefit her lawsuit, which she filed three weeks after his October 30 arrest.
