Atlanta radio host suspended after insulting ESPN’s Mendoza on Twitter

BELL’s tweet was immediately criticized by several others on Twitter, including ESPN’s RACHEL NICHOLS, and after attempts to defend his comment (calling critics “PC candy ass”) and then characterize it as a joke, and after the ATLANTA FALCONS posted a tweet saying “Embarrassed by MIKE BELL’s comments, given he’s on our flagship station”.

Bell, who yakks on Atlanta-based 92.9 The Game, was not impressed with Mendoza’s credentials or style, which has been widely praised.

With the Houston Astros taking the New York Yankees, former Olympic softball player Jessica Mendoza had become the first woman to be in the booth for a nationally televised Major League Baseball postseason broadcast.

The last thing I wanted to do was create drama for my coworkers who, unfortunately, get tainted because of my stupid remarks, and have to answer questions about what I said. She also replaced Curt Schilling, who led the show, after he appeared to compare Muslims to Nazis on Twitter. I will be more mindful.

Bell has been suspended for an undisclosed length of time after airing a pre-taped apology Wednesday afternoon. She is a two-time gold medal victor in softball. He doesn’t see softball as the same as baseball.

Bell has since deleted his spree of offensive tweets, but here is a sampling, unedited so you get the full experience. His employers have shown no willingness to put a stop to this in the past, and neither Bell nor 92.9/The Game showed any remorse for what happened until the Falcons called him out. “I dig horsepower, ribeyes & brown liquor”. I presume his statement on air today will be all until he returns.
