Divers Nearly Swallowed by Whales

Two scuba divers were nearly sucked into the mouths of large whales in Central California when they accidentally came in between these giant mammals and their food. It was just like a scene from the movie Finding Nemo as these divers escaped unhurt miraculously. According to experts, the two divers were lucky to survive unhurt as they were not hit by the giant 40 ton whales. They were also lucky not to have been sucked by the gaping jaws of these whales who were on their routine feeding of plankton.

An expert from National Marine Fisheries said that these divers should thank their stars for being alive as the slightest of impacts by giant whales who weigh up to 40 tons can seriously injure or even kill human beings. The scene was caught by the lens of a camera making it scary for the divers as they can see it and remember their foolish act for the rest of their lives.

Shawn Stamback and fellow diver Francis Antigua were in the waters when these giant whales suddenly made their way up on the surface of the water. Surprised and overwhelmed, the two divers scrambled their way to safety on the boat on which they had come to do scuba diving and have some fun. According to experts, whales do not eat people. They are friendly aquatic mammals who feed upon krill and small fish. These whales were doing just that when they decided to catch these stupid divers off guard.

The divers were on a charter off Morro Bay in California. They later said that they were having fun and never expectedhumpback-whale-size such a close encounter with giant whales. Shawn said that it was scary and overwhelming as he avoided being hit by the gaping jaws of the two whales. Francis believes that they were saved not by chance but by the generosity of the whales who decided to somehow avoid them when they burst on to the surface of the water.

Humpback whales are not meat eaters and there have been no recorded incidents where these giant yet gentle creatures have intentionally killed or eaten human beings. Though they are so huge that they can eat up to a ton of food every day, these whales consciously avoid human beings as their slightest of impacts can kill human beings or at least injure them badly.

Shawn later told reporters that he thought he would be swallowed by the gaping jaws of the two giant whales or at least be hit by the huge tails. But he was pleasantly surprised to see that the whales chose to go straight up in air rather than hitting or swallowing them. It just shows that whales are not interested in human beings. In this case at least, they were on their routine hunt of fish and plankton and the two divers just seem to have come in between the whales and their prey.
