Couple whose shed held Becky Watts’ body parts admit assisting offender

Her step-brother Nathan Matthews, 28, of Hazelbury Drive, Warmley and his girlfriend, Shauna Hoare, also known as Phillips, 22, of Cotton Mill Lane in Barton Hill are both charged with Becky’s murder.

Her mother Tanya, father Darren Galsworthy, grandparents John and Pat and uncle Sam were in Bristol Crown Court as proceedings opened.

He placed Becky’s body in their bath and dismembered it using a circular saw, then hid the body parts downstairs.

“In addition to their apparent dislike of Rebecca Watts, there is good reason to believe that there was also a sexual motive behind the scheme, arising from a shared unnatural interest in attractive teenage females and that a foreseeable conclusion to it being carried out be either Rebecca Watts’s death or serious injury”.

Matthews allegedly told police he carried out the kidnapping to teach his stepsister a lesson because he believed she was “selfish” and treated his mother badly, prosecutors said during the couple’s trial in Bristol on Wednesday.

“She was suffocated, despite her fighting for her life”, prosecutor William Mousley told the Press Association. The teen was attacked and suffocated in her bedroom that day, The Guardian reported. “There followed a deliberate, carefully planned and grotesquely executed plan to cover up her killing”, Mr Mousley said.

Body parts were found in a garden shed several days after she disappeared from her family home in Crown Hill, Bristol.

The following day a huge manhunt was launched and, as the search for Becky started, Matthews visited a B&Q where he bought goggles, face masks, gloves and a circular saw.

A couple who had the dismembered body of teenager Becky Watts stored in their garden shed pleaded guilty to assisting an offender, it can be reported for the first time.

Karl Demetrius, 29, and his girlfriend, Jaydene Parsons, 23, admitted the charge at an earlier hearing at Bristol Crown Court.

“They knew that the police would most likely be coming… the next morning”, and the prosecution say steps “had to be taken to have Becky Watts’ body parts removed”.

Karl Demetrius, his twin brother Donovan, both 29, Karl’s girlfriend Jaydene Parsons and work colleague James Ireland, both 23, are charged with assisting an offender.

Becky had previously told a child psychologist she “did not like Matthews and was afraid of him”, a jury heard.

Also, seen walking in to court were members of Becky’s family, as a police van transporting one of the defendants entered the court building.

That evening, the couple ordered a Chinese meal from a takeaway where Matthews worked and later attempted to call a pizza company, as well as watching television.

Hoare pleaded not guilty to all changes.

She had 15 stab wounds to the abdomen and a further slash wound which were caused after death, the prosecutor stated.

“As a result of Becky’s blood being found on door frames outside her bedroom, a few of which contained Nathan Matthews fingerprints, Matthews and Hoare were arrested for kidnap”.

Police went to the property following Matthews’ confession in interview and discovered Becky’s body parts stored in the shed.

“Facebook dialogue between November and December 2014 found on a phone which was recovered show a shared interest in teenage girls, perhaps younger, and of kidnapping one of them”, he said.
