Sony may have wanted to release the 1TB PS4 console as Microsoft recently announced it will be releasing a 1TB Xbox One console too.

A promo video for the new PS4 flavor follows below.

No pricing structure was announced for the new piece of hardware, as Sony recommends readers check with their local retailer for pricing information. This model will be available in Jet Black and Glacier White. The slimmer version is scheduled for release in Japan later this month.

The other PS4 model announced today, the CUH-1200, appears to be iterative design. Existing owners can easily replace their 2.5-inch hard drive without voiding their warranty. It has double the storage space of the current PS4. Another popular option is to play a hybrid drive or solid state drive in the PS4 to speed up game loads.

Engadget noted that meanwhile; the 500GB version is now 10 percent lighter and 8 percent more power efficient.

The HDD bay cover has also been given a new matte finish.

Xbox 360 users will most likely shift towards the next generation consoles, says Microsoft executive Aaron Greenberg – ” A lot of people have been waiting for the next Halo; a lot of people have been waiting for Gears; a lot of people have been waiting for backwards compatibility”. “Any chance of an increase on that?” There is also no word about a PS4 price drop. It bears the same $399 price tag as the original version. While, Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) has refused to introduce any such feature, it nevertheless has decided to upgrade its storage capacity to 1TB.
