New four-wheel drive Porsche 911s arrive just in time for the autumn
Additionally, the Carrera 4 and Targa 4 variants are distinguished by a light strip between the rear lights which is now particularly distinctive thanks to its three-dimensional design. When switched on, the light reinforces the impression of depth. With its individual design, the new 911 Targa continues to stand out clearly from the coupé and cabriolet. It combines the classic Targa design with an advanced roof in spectacular fashion.

Just like the RWD 911, the Carrera 4 get the new 3.0 litre turbo engine with 365bp, enough to get to 62mph in 4.1 seconds – 0.4s quicker than the previous naturally aspirated version and o.1s quicker than the standard Carrera. In the base Carrera 4 and Targa 4, the new forced induction mill pumps out 370 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque.
At the same time, the Carrera 4 and Targa 4 gain other advancements made to the range when the turbocharged flat-six engines were introduced, from small styling tweaks to further improvements in the chassis.
November’s LA auto show will be playing host to three new all-wheel drive Porches with all-new engines and better performance and economy figures.
The 2016 Porsche Carrera 4, equipped with the PDK and the Sport Chrono Package, needs just 4.1 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill, which is basically 0.4 seconds faster than before. The updated Carrera 4S will do it in 3.8 seconds, which is 0.3 of a second less than before. Top speeds vary between 287 km/h and 305 km/h depending on model and equipment.
Traditionally, every new generation of engines from Porsche combines more output with less consumption.
Combined with all-wheel drive the new coupes will consume less fuel, and pack more power, than any of their predecessors.
The Sport Chrono package now includes a mode switch on the steering wheel inspired by the 918 Spyder supercar. It gives drivers a mode switch on the steering wheel, to select between Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual driving modes. When this button is pressed, the drivetrain is pre-conditioned for maximum acceleration for up to 20 seconds.
Interested customers can have the updated all-wheel drive Porsche 911 in their driveway beginning this upcoming April. Firstly, the electro-hydraulically controlled all-wheel drive responds with even more speed and sensitivity thanks to the technology adopted from the 911 Turbo. Porsche says that it enhances directional stability during “extremely sporty driving” without sacrificing any agility.
In addition to the new AWD layout, the revamped Porsche Active Suspension Management system comes standard on all models, and it lowers ride height by 10 millimeters in the search for true cornering bliss. At the same time, the active shock absorbers have also been re-engineered. For unlimited everyday practicality, Porsche supplies a hydraulic lift system with integrated lifting cylinders in the struts of the front axle. User inputs by handwriting are also possible.
