Southern Oregon University’s Ashland campus was closed Wednesday due to an “unconfirmed threat”, according to an alert posted on the school’s website.

“SOU administration last night, in consultation with law enforcement, determined that the best course of action following that note being found was to cancel all classes and activities and close campus for today, Wednesday”, Brown said. Now Ashland Police said it is conducting a criminal investigation.

In awe of the recent events, the Oregon State University has reinforced all security measures and police officers were immediately called to deal with possible threats.

Ashland is about 100 miles south of Roseburg, where nine people were shot and killed at Umpqua Community College last week. Students who live on campus were instructed to remain in their dorms until further notice.

Essential personnel, like campus safety and food services staff, are still asked to come to work. Although this local facility will be shut down, authorities have reassured that the Higher Education Center in Medford will remain open on Wednesday.
