Air Chief Marshal Raha said, “We have women pilots flying transport aircraft and helicopters”. SKAT was disbanded four years ago because of shortage of aircraft.
At the function, Raha presented the Vayu Sena medal (gallantry) to 13 air force personnel. A scintillating air display by various aircraft was the hallmark of the Parade cum Investiture Ceremony here in Ghaziabad.
The flypast included C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, with three of them flying in V formation. Other fighter aircrafts, including Jaguar and SU-30, also took part in fighter fly past.
Former Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who was present at the occasion, was made an honourary Group Captain in the IAF.

Asked if his son wants to join the IAF, he said: “He is too young to decide. Many air forces have women fighter pilots”, he said. “Women are by nature not physically suited for flying fighter planes for long hours, especially when they are pregnant or have other health problems”. “On numerous occasions in the past, during natural disasters, IAF has been at the forefront providing timely succor and relief”, he added. 8th October commemorates IAF’s unfaltering determination, heroism and courage.
