Leonte Carroo reinstated to Rutgers football team

EAST LANSING -Rutgers has reinstated its most unsafe offensive weapon, first-team All-Big Ten receiver Leonte Carroo.

Carroo was accused of slamming a woman onto a concrete surface outside the school’s football stadium following a loss to Washington State last month.

Head coach Kyle Flood brought back the suspended receiver after he “agreed to the conditions of his reinstatement” and “accept[ed] the responsibility that comes with his return to the team”. That came hours after another judge lifted a temporary restraining order because the woman said she didn’t think it was necessary.

It was reported by NJ.com on Tuesday that an assault charge against Carroo stemming from a Sept 12 incident had been dismissed.

This weekend’s game is the third and final of Flood’s suspension, punishment for knowingly violating university rules about contacting faculty members regarding the grades of student-athletes.

The municipal prosecutor said that without the alleged victim’s cooperation, the case was not likely to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt. Carroo is eligible immediately and can play in Saturday’s home game against Michigan State. Carroo caught 55 passes for 1,086 yards past year for Rutgers. Through two games in 2015 Carroo once again led the team with seven receptions for 181 yards and three scores, before missing the team’s Week 3 and Week 4 agames against Penn State and Kansas, respectively.

Carroo, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound senior captain, was arrested days after after six current and three former Rutgers players were charged with a series of violent crimes.
