Applications have been opened today for the development kit which Microsoft says will be available in the first quarter of 2016. Microsoft showed off Project XRay’s “holograms you can hold” feature, which projects a holographic gauntlet onto the player’s arm that acts as their weapon.

At the beginning of 2015, Microsoft showed off the HoloLens, an ambitious headset that displays digital images over the world around you, using a technology commonly referred to as augmented reality.
For a device that is not even in the hands of developers yet, Microsoft’s HoloLens augmented reality headset has certainly captured the imagination of the tech savvy public. It’s called “Project X-ray”, and it looks incredible.
The HoloLens will work as an independent, standalone device, and be powered by a custom “holographic processing unit”.
“When you combine technology like this with the environmental understanding of HoloLens, you can do a few pretty spectacular things”, Microsoft said.
The Surface hasn’t been in India right from the start and one doesn’t know whether this situation will change, but it was a product that had everyone the most excited, along with the Surface Book.
The Hololens immerses the user with spatial sounds, and robots which smash through your living room walls. The demo player on stage initiated “vortex mode”, turning his blaster into a vacuum that sucked an alien to his fist and then launched the critter against a wall where it splattered to its doom. For that latter group, earlier in the year Microsoft asked for academic research proposals, and will be awarding five successful teams with $100,000 in funding and two HoloLens Development Edition units.

Interestingly, HoloLens builds the levels around each room in your home, understanding furniture locations to ensure robots climb over them, float around them and really seem believable in the space you’re playing in.
