Escaped king cobra captured

That damaged the cobra’s cage and allowed the deadly snake to push against a screen and escape, according to FWC documents.

Animal services officers arrived at her home late Wednesday night, where they located the snake and captured it.

The snake is still on the loose.

News of the king cobra’s escape created panic in Kennedy’s Orlando neighborhood where one school made the decision to cancel outdoor activities for a time. He pleaded not guilty this week to a misdemeanor charge for failing to immediately report the snake missing. The snake was shedding, however, which made it more dormant. “I’m glad he surfaced”, Valerie Kennedy told WFTV.

Mike Kennedy was fined $366 after he admitted he waited 24 hours to report that snake had escaped. We didn’t want him harmed (and) we didn’t want the public harmed. Kennedy is licensed to own exotic animals.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers confirmed it was the snake that has been missing since September 1. He has permits for all of the animals, including the king cobra.

The cobra has been returned to the home of its owner, Mike Kennedy. Ledford said the snake put up a fight before being caught.

Kennedy has been cited in the past for not keeping unsafe reptiles in secure locations.
