Facebook Eyes Augmented Reality

After Facebook bought Oculus, it partnered with Samsung to manufacture the augmented reality (AR) headset which the social media giant has started to ship, reports Techcrunch.

Facebook may already be leading the race to ship a viable virtual reality headset for consumers with its $2 billion acquisition of Oculus VR, but the world’s biggest social network is not stopping there when it comes to exploring different modes of reality. He explains, “It’s kind of seamless”.

While virtual reality is focused squarely on creating immersive entertainment experiences, augmented reality could lend itself to thousands of more practical applications in the real world. This was confirmed by Michael Abrash, the chief scientist at Oculus VR who notes that augmented reality still has quite a ways to go. Maybe it’ll be contacts [or glasses].

People are excited about VR and in due course of time there will be millions of units offering VR, just like how popular Smartphones are today.
