Despite being the smallest of the bunch though, the XPS 12 won’t be going on sale until January 2016. How it fares under more intense testing remains to be seen.
However, there’s one clear issue we have with the XPS 12’s keyboard dock: the tablet can only connect in one position; there’s no greater flexibility to tilt the screen back through any other angles whatsoever.
The Surface Book can shed its keyboard, whenever it’s convenient to do so, and masquerade around as a tablet. Both tablets are 8mm thick.
Pricing starts at $1,000. I haven’t yet had the opportunity to benchmark any devices using the chip, but Intel claims it will improve battery life and performance by up to 30%. This is because there’s no adjustable hinge. I’ll need more time testing in the real world to see if the lack of adjustments will cause any problems but it’s worth keeping in mind. The XPS 12’s keyboard adds an additional 1.1 pounds. It can be configured with Intel’s sixth-generation processors (also known as Skylake) up to a quad-core i7, up to 16GB of memory and fast PCIe solid-state or hard drives up to 1TB. You can also boost the storage to 256GB. The new 12-inch, 13-inch, and 15-inch laptops are created to be thin and small.
The laptop-tablet hybrid device features several ports including two Thunderbolt 3-enabled USB Type-C ports, a headset jack, an SD card reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC) and a noble lock. The XPS 13 will be available beginning 8th October on Dell.com in the United Kingdom starting at £849.
If true, then the XPS 12 should be a massive step up compared to most existing convertibles.
Announced just after Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book reveal, Dell’s revamped XPS family begins with the all-new XPS 12. Users who want the 4K bump will also get double the amount of flash storage space for $1,299 (about £857, AU$1836).
4GB, 8GB or 16GB LPDDR3-1866MHz RAM. Memory and storage options are similar to the XPS 13, though you are “restricted” to an SSD. Like the XPS 12, there’s a Thunderbolt 3 port that can also be used with Dell’s new dock range.
Under the hood, the device features a 12.5-inch display (with a a 4K option available), Intel’s 2.7GHz Core M5 processor.
Frank Azor, broad supervisor of Dell XPS, said with an check out by using VentureBeat the fact that the 13-inch XPS kind delivers the “smallest footstep to acquire a 13-inch laptop/tablet toward the planet”.
Both the XPS 15 and XPS 13 have Dell logos on their lids. The new Dell 2-in-1 is the world’s first with a 4K Ultra HD display option. Graphics duties are handled by either integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 or a powerful GeForce GTX 960M processor that is paired with 2GB GDDR5 memory. Thunderbolt 3 again makes an appearance. An optional Dell Power Companion is available that will net you a further 9 hours.

For the XPS 15, the InfinityEdge display has a 4K Ultra HD (3,840×2,160-pixel) resolution and Dell says it’s the only laptop display with 100 percent minimum Adobe RGB color.
