It was a tense final, with filled iced buns, raspberry mille feuille and show-stopping classic British cakes – which the finalists had to make PERFECTLY. Being a mother of three small children all under ten is time consuming but Nadiya says she wanted her own adventure and had a very supportive husband.
Her masterpiece was her husband’s favourite – lemon drizzle – and was presented in a stand decorated in red, white and blue sari material.
She continued: “My friends all want me to tell Nadiya she’s wonderful and want me to ask Tamal to marry them”.
She said: “Bizarrely, I found the final was one of the least scariest [rounds] and I really enjoyed the experience the most out of all the filming days”.
“I think she’s incredibly talented and it’s really wonderful to see a British Muslim just showcasing the best of Muslim talent in this country”, said Zara Mohammed, vice president of the Federation of Student Islamic Societies.
“Every single thing they bake or prepare has to be the very best they canproduce”, said Paul, at the start of the final episode.
Ms Wheatcroft, who also owns The Bakehouse, a bakery in Carlisle, says that interest in artisan baking is still on the rise with bread sales doubling in the previous year.

After winning the trophy in June, Nadiya confessed she’s had a hard time keeping her secret. Previously a shy woman with little self-confidence, she said, fighting back tears: “I am never going to put boundaries on myself ever again”.
Looking to the future, Nadiya said: “Family life will carry on as normal. But as soon as I got on the train to Bake Off, I would look forward to seeing the other bakers”. However, his inventive bakes and dedication to using his own ingredients undoubtedly warranted his place in the final three. And this week Ladbrokes has said it will consider whether to allow betting on future series of the Great British Bake Off after claims that workers linked to the show were placing bets on this year’s victor.
And sure enough, the amateur baker set aside her nerves to nail the final, producing a showstopper so worthy of its name it was described as “sheer perfection” by the judges.

But Ian had trouble when he forgot to add sugar to his spiced buns for the signature bake and Tamal faced problems with the setting of his creme patissiere. It was a declaration not without substance after the dish placed her last in the technical challenge and reduced her to tears.
