Auli’i Cravalho joins Dwayne Johnson in Moana which is set to hit theaters November 23, 2016.

Auli’i Cravalho, 14, voices the title character In “Moana”, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming big-screen adventure. Today Disney announced the voice of Moana and accompanied the reveal with the official look for the character.

Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin) are directing Moana from their own screenplay, with Osnat Shurer (Oscar-nominated Pixar shorts One Man Band, Boundin) producing.

It’s a sweeping adventure about a spirited teenager who sets out on a mission to conclude her ancestors’ unfinished quest and prove herself as a master wayfinder. During her journey, Moana teams up with Maui, and together they encounter “enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore”.

“Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself”, Musker said. But there are loads of reasons to be excited about it until then, mostly centering on the fact that the character sounds pretty badass. That footage hasn’t been released online, so sadly we can’t all judge what it was like.

In a short video of Auli’i’s audition, the filmmakers says they auditioned hundreds of “talented young women throughout the pacific Island before finding their ideal match”.

Dreams do come true!

“It’s such a blessing”, Puanani added.

“And just, what we call “ono the moment” and just savor it. Yeah, it’s real, it’s real, it really happened”.
