This is a second consecutive morning of depressing overnight ratings with virtually every series declining week to week. It has also shown impressive growth in delayed viewing.

There were a couple of bright lights in the bleak picture.
“Arrow” kicked off its fourth season Wednesday with a return to form, drawing a total of 2.6 million viewers, and a 1.1 rating. In adults 18-34, the superhero drama was flat.
While Empire was off 6% from last week’s rating, Fox nonetheless cruised to an easy win, its 3.4 rating in 18-49, along with 11 share, according to Nielsen preliminary numbers, well ahead of ABC’s 1.8/6.
“Supernatural” followed at 9 p.m. (0.9/3 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall), down from its year-ago opener on Tuesday when it aired behind “The Flash“, but outperforming all nine episodes that aired Wednesday at 9 a year ago.
CBS finished in third in the key demo but second in total viewers a 1.6/5 and 8.2 million viewers. The country music drama has been a major DVR gainer, posting the biggest 18-49 percentage lift for premiere week. That is up 9% over Arrow’s 1.0 season finale last spring.
“Empire’s” ratings dropped for the second week in a row, but Fox’s hit hip-hop soap opera was still the top show across all of broadcast. The network won the night in 18-49 and total viewers. Modern Family earned a 2.7, down 10 percent from last week, and 7.8 million viewers. “Rosewood” turned in a 1.7/6 and 5.7 million viewers at 8 p.m, down from a 1.9/7 and 6.2 million last week.
