The U-shaped walkway, which opened last month, is now closed to the public until further notice. When I was about to reach the end [of the passage], I heard a sudden bang and felt a shake under my feet, ‘ the unnamed 20-year-old woman wrote in a Weibo post that has since been taken down. “I looked down and I saw that there was a crack in the floor”, the tourist told Chinese media.

But just when Chinese tourists thought it was safe to go and explore this nauseous sky walkway in the Yuntai Mountain Geological Park, in China’s in Henan Province, the bloody thing started cracking and people understandably lost their sh*t. “I’m not sure what caused the crack, but there were people screaming that very moment and I yelled, ‘It’s shattered!” I cried, ‘It’s really cracked! Tourists were evacuated from the scene. The staff member said that the crack happened because of a heavy thermos which was dropped by a visitor.

The glass bridge, launched on September 20, is 260 metres long in its first phase of development.

Official representatives said that several cracks appeared on the bridge as a result of an “external force”.

But authorities insisted only one out of the three layers of glass broke, so the tourists were not in any significant danger.
