$50,630.80 to the attorney (Robert D. McDonnell) who represented Kerrick in the civil suit brought by the Jonathan Ferrell family.

Earlier this year the city also settled with the Ferrell family for more than $2 million.

Kerrick was on trial for the shooting death of Jonathan Ferrell in September 2013.

“Wes Kerrick did not resign because of any wrong doing or misconduct”, Kerrick’s lawyers for the criminal trial stated in a release about his resignation.

The city’s total payout is $179,989.59.

The City of Charlotte and now-former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer Randall Kerrick have reached a separation agreement.

Under the settlement, Kerrick has resigned from CMPD effective October. 2. The agreement, which contains no admission of fault or liability, includes a release of all potential legal claims.

Ferrell, a former defensive back for Florida A&M, was in a vehicle accident that night and dragged himself to a nearby house to get help, officials said.

The separation agreement between Kerrick and the city of Charlotte means Kerrick will not be able to sue the city in the future regarding this incident. Our belief was confirmed by the majority of the jurors during his criminal trial. The state’s attorney general’s office decided against retrying the case, saying they did not believe a different verdict could be reached. “Wes Kerrick and his family look forward to new endeavors and are eager to place this tragic chapter of their lives behind them”.

Prosecutors said Ferrell started to run because he was afraid for his life after another officer pointed a Taser at him.
