Someone forgot to tell Beats 1 Radio host Zane Lowe, though, as he said he had heard a “rumor” (reminder: it was officially announced and dated by Sony two months ago, at the time of writing this) of another Bad Boys when he spoke with Will Smith.

When Sony blew the lid off its release schedule, penciling in launch dates for the likes of Underworld 5, The Dark Tower and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the studio also showed a few love to its dormant 90s action series by slating both Bad Boys 3 and Bad Boys 4 for arrival in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

Listen to Smith’s comments, starting at 18:31, in the video below.

It was previously reported that Bad Boys 3 could be moving forward with Joe Carnahan attached as director.

The original two Bad Boys films, directed by Michael Bay (Transformers), starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as hard-nosed cops who went on over-the-top police adventures. Bad Boys was released in 1995, with the sequel following in 2003, but there will obviously be an even bigger gap between II and III!

“Bad Boys” earned $140 million worldwide for a $19 million budget in 1995. Speculatively, the budget may most likely be higher than the first’s but unlikely to surpass the second’s.

At this point, however, there are no confirmations of a script or director for the project.
