Shortly after 9 p.m., university officials said the threat appeared to be a hoax, one of a series of threats called in to area colleges this week. All classes and activities are canceled tonight.
All students, faculty and staff were told to evacuate all buildings Thursday evening at Northern Illinois University and gather at the campus’s main sports arena after a bomb threat, according to alerts on the university’s website.
ABC is also reporting that a bomb threat was made at DePaul University’s O’Hare campus, 8770 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.
DEKALB (WIFR) – Northern Illinois University buildings are being evacuated due to a bomb threat. All buildings need to be evacuated immediately. All students and staff on campus were asked to report to the Convocation Center.
Those on campus are being advised to go to the Convocation Center if they don’t have a way to get home.
As a result all evening classes at the school are canceled. The previously planned basketball event is continuing as scheduled at 8:30 p.m.
Because the nature of the threat was not specific, university officials also closed all of its branch campuses until they too could be searched and cleared.
