Globalized trade and the TPP — Los Angeles Times
“A successful TPP will revolutionize worldwide trade in the Asia-Pacific region”, it said.

The terms of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact, which member governments covering about 40% of the world economy agreed to on 5 October, would set important precedents for the future development of global trade and investment if ratified, says Fitch Ratings.
Saying she is anxious about currency manipulation not being included in the agreement along with lack of pharmaceutical price protections, Clinton said she opposes the current Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Bringing together 12 nations; Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, United States, and Vietnam, the TPP will reduce tariffs and standardise trade specifications on food.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe hailed a deal to create the world’s largest free trade area Tuesday as the start of a “new century” for Asia, and expressed hope China might one day join the historic accord.
Instead, with TPP, China’s reformers could move forward with a stronger hand that shows how better trade policies generate economic growth.
“National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) played an active role throughout the five-plus years of negotiations”, said association President Dr. Ron Prestage, “providing USA negotiators with key information on barriers we face in the 11 other TPP countries and offering guidance on outcomes that would ensure substantial new market access benefits for USA pork in those markets”.
The trade deal, also known as TPP, between 12 Pacific Rim nations has been met with skepticism in the Northwest – notably from the city of Seattle and the Washington State Democratic Central Committee.
The agreement will also deepen the Republic’s existing trade relationships by including components which were left out of previous agreements.
The trickier exercise is preventing countries from using labor, environmental and other laws to give their industries an unfair advantage, which means setting the right common standards for how goods should be produced.
Several U.S. industries which were sacrificed during the negotiations have already called on Congress to vote against the TPP.
In a statement, Coalition for a Prosperous America said there is nothing novel about this TPP agreement.

“The government is bound to spin the benefits like insane, knowing that we won’t get to see the real deal for another month”, Prof Kelsey said.
