He was told to rest for a few days and to return to hospital should he deteriorate or begin to feel unwell.

The 87-year-old star has pulled out of presenting his variety show, Bruce’s Hall Of Fame, after being told he must rest completely for at least a week.

He will be replaced in the show by his co-star Alexander Armstrong. Alexander Armstrong, who was also set to appear on the show, will now be taking over as compere in Forsyth’s absence.

The company behind the show, said: “This morning, Sir Bruce Forsyth slipped and fell at his home resulting in facial abrasions and minor concussion.

All the tests which were ¬substantial came up fine, but at the same time, at any age when you fall and bash your head it is not good”.

He did have to take time off from his work on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013 when he was laid-low by a particularly bad bout of ‘flu, but as far as we can recall, that’s about the only time in recent years – aside from his recent fall obviously – that he’s suffered ill-health.

Bruce’s publicist and friend Ian Wilson took him to hospital and told the Daily Mirror: “Bruce is shaken and stirred”.

‘But he is a lucky man really because he fell and he is alright.

“I’ll feel very odd and I’ll miss it like mad, but when you’ve been with something for 10 years that will happen”.

Bruce’s Hall Of Fame is expected to air on the BBC in the new year.

Sir Bruce, the host of the series since it launched in 2004, was not feeling up to the rigours of the live show with Tess Daly.
