Wider acceptance should give Apple Pay a much-needed boost. In Chili’s, customers will be able to pay for their food directly at their tables using Apple Pay. One of the issues of adding loyalty programs like these is that it often requires an upgrade to the point-of-sale terminal so the process will likely take a few time. According to Apple’s Jennifer Bailey, Starbucks will begin to roll out Apple Pay integration for Apple devices to most stores inside the year 2016.

Apple Inc.’s fledgling mobile-payment service is getting a boost from Starbucks Corp.
KFC and Chili’s restaurants also will begin accepting Apple Pay in 2016, Bailey said at Re/code’s Code/Mobile technology conference in Half Moon Bay, California. Using the mobile payment service should allow for lines to move quicker. The coffee company previously integrated Apple Pay into its own app as a payment method, but only to refill a customer’s Starbucks Card, not to pay at the register. Apple Pay is now offered in the US and United Kingdom, with Canadian and Chinese consumers expected to be next in line to have the service at their disposal. Those only come when using Starbucks’ own app.

Bailey also said that Kentucky Fried Chicken will be supporting Apple Pay starting next spring, and Best Buy went live with Apple Pay today across 1,400 stores.
