Dodgers’ Win Over San Diego Moves Them Closer To Home-Field Advantage

Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) seems to have forgotten herself while at a baseball game recently-everyone’s (but dad Danny’s) favorite middle child disrupted the final game in the series between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Howie Kendrick might have whistled the last pitch of Hudson’s career into center field for a single, but that did not dampen the applause as the beloved right-hander from Auburn by way of Oakland doffed his cap to a standing ovation in the third inning of the Giants’ 3-2 loss to the Dodgers at AT&T Park.

In five starts at Dodger Stadium since he was acquired at the non-waiver deadline in late July – including Friday against San Diego – he has averaged nearly seven innings with a 2.41 ERA and generally looked like a dependable pitcher. Hudson was charged with three runs on three hits and two walks. “It’s go time. Guys are getting their last at-bats for a week”.

Fairly normal lineup. A day off for Joc Pederson against a righty is kind of unusual, but Enrique Hernandez has been great of late and it would be good for him to get back in rhythm before the postseason.

An impending free agent, Vogelsong allowed just one hit in four innings, struck out six and did not walk a batter while hitting 94 miles per hour.

The San Francisco Giants’ Tim Hudson started Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in what was likely his final game as a professional ball player. With three games to play, Los Angeles and New York are tied for home-field advantage in the series, with the Mets holding the tiebreaker entering their season-ending home set against the Nationals. Nancy Bea Hefley, the Dodgers’ organist since 1988, announced her retirement, effective at season’s end….

The Dodgers know they will be playing the Mets in the first round, but it still remains to be seen which team will have home field advantage in the NLDS.

“I just closed my eyes and swung the bat”, he admitted. Tonight’s Mets-Nationals game has been postponed due to rain and is scheduled to be made up tomorrow.

“Right now? Tonight? Moving forward I’m not sure we’ve made that decision yet, but tonight it’s Corey”, he said.

James Shields won’t make his scheduled start Sunday because the Padres want to evaluate their bullpen.

Chris Hatcher and closer Kenley Jansen, who got his 35th save, then sealed the result for Anderson (10-9), who allowed two runs and four hits in 7-2/3 innings.

In Phoenix, Welington Castillo had a go-ahead two-run double with two outs during Arizona’s four-run seventh. L.A. has won every series they’ve played and with Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw going the next two games it’s a good bet that trend will not change over the weekend. He is 5-1 with a 1.61 ERA in 11 career starts against the Padres.
