Shiv Sena Under Fire for Double Speak

Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali on Friday accepted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s invitation to perform in the national capital.

Criticising those who have attacked the party for forcing cancellation of Ghulam Ali’s concert here, the Sena said, “Those who say that politics should not be mixed with sports and culture are belittling the patriotic feelings”. “We came here to share love”, he added. The concert was eventually cancelled under pressure from Sena.

Reacting to the cancellation of the concert, Ali said, “Atmosphere is not conducive for me to perform”. They had no issues in felicitating Mr Miandad at Matoshree, but they do not want Ghulam Ali to perform. His concerts in Mumbai and Pune got cancelled after protest from Shiv Sena.

Representatives of Panache Media, the Indian company that had organized the events, chose to call off the performances after meeting with Shiv Sena officials. He said that nation and patriotism are priority over music and branded.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit said he regretted the decision.

Shiv Sena, however, today said it was not possible to have fun when soldiers are being martyred and that it will continue to “boycott” Pakistan till it stops terror activities.
