Hollywood movie ‘Pan’ hits the big screens today

Pan is visually superb with large explosions of color, flying galleons and unbelievable action scenes that the kids will be enthralled with, giving them the edge of your seat excitement even if they maybe looking through their fingers at times.

Indeed, the two actors bonded so well that they became the unofficial pranksters on set, which didn’t always go over well. He’s got this desire to get back to wherever he came from, but he can’t really remember where that was. Otherwise the movie is a rush of special effects that signify nothing, telling a story that pretends to add to a beloved mythology while instead mostly just cheapening it. No one knew it was Hugh Jackman portraying the character because the makeup completely made him unrecognisable.

Peter is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. But that sense of possibility and hope, which is what Peter Pan and Neverland are about, it’s about staying young, having that glint in your eye. “Pan” has a heart and an interesting origin story, but like many recent multimillion-dollar productions, it’s guilty of overkill. “I’m playing a native of Neverland and she’s a courageous warrior, very independent and self-sufficient”. However, Jackman said the woman attendant, who he says was stoned at that time, only told him that he looked like a pirate. That aside, it isn’t long before all forces are fighting over the future of Neverland, while all poor Peter wants to do is find his mum. He discovers his identity and confidence along the way. Blackbeard has a reason for all of his slaves working in the mines but no one is aware why. No, not Captain Hook; he’s a good guy here, who has somehow seen his share of Indiana Jones movies, judging by Garret Hedlund’s distracting Harrison Ford impersonation.

Was that the appeal – a role in which he’d disappear? Their arrival is greeted by a society of orphans singing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and later “Blitzkreig Bop”.

Many interpretations of Peter Pan over the years have featured girls in the title role – a thought that did cross Wright’s mind, he says. “I found that the script spoke to where I was at in terms of new parenthood”. I’ve performed feeling way worse but I just couldn’t feel this so I didn’t realise the [severity]. The story picks up with Peter, now aged 12, still dreaming of his mother’s return. Miller is good as Peter and Jackman, a seasoned song-and-dance man, has the most fun.

“And the ultimate compliment was: ‘Could we go to another screening?” It was astonishing. The moment I put it on I felt like that kind of show pony pirate who loves being Blackbeard, and loves all the pomp and ceremony of it, and all the adoration.

Relative newcomer Levi Miller stars as Peter Pan with Garrett Hedlund as a pitch flawless young Hook and Rooney Mara as a fierce Tiger Lily, while a nigh’ unrecognizable Hugh Jackman serves as the film’s protagonist, a menacing version of Blackbeard who is obsessed with fairy dust and immortality.
