Woman Fires Shots at Shoplifter in Parking Lot

Police in Auburn Hills say a 46-year-old woman saw a Loss Prevention officer chasing a man out of the store and fired shots at the vehicle the man got into.

A manhunt is still on for the suspected shoplifter and his driver, but locals are questioning the potentially unsafe act by the armed citizen, identified only as a 48-year-old woman from Clarkston. “The way it works in this county is that the police investigate and then bring us as much information as they can”.

And many gun safety experts in the Detroit area firmly believe that not only did her actions make gun owners look bad, but the woman should be arrested.

“In that situation personally, there’s no way I would be shooting my gun”, Dawn Martin, another instructor, told the Free Press.

Gun rights defenders are shaking their heads over the behavior of a trigger happy woman who fancied herself a vigilante on Tuesday in a Home Depot parking lot in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

“A passerby shooting at someone with whom she has had no contact is a different scenario”, he said.

She does have a concealed pistol license and she is cooperating with police. “You are not a person out there protecting the public at large”.

Michigan requires a shooter to be in danger of death, bodily harm or sexual assault in order to lawfully use a weapon.

Both men could face felonies of felony retail fraud because the items stolen were worth more than $1,000, police said. The governor previously vetoed legislation that would have allowed CPL holders with extra training to carry concealed firearms into off-limits zones like bars and schools.

“I’m happy that no one was seriously injured”. They have not been officially charged or named publicly by police. She holds CPL classes.
