The US cargo ship El Faro set sail from Jacksonville, Florida, en route to Puerto Rico on September 29 as Hurricane Joaquin was forming in the Atlantic.

She said she believes Richard or the other 32 crew members who were onboard could still be alive.

The owners of El Faro insist the captain had a “sound plan” to avoid Hurricane Joaquin – a plan that only unraveled when the ship’s main propulsion stopped working.

President Barack Obama on Wednesday expressed condolences to families of all 33 mariners, who are now presumed dead. However, crews continue to work diligently in a bid to rescue the 33 crew members that were aboard the U.S.-flagged vessel.

Meanwhile, TOTE Maritime, the company that owns the El Faro ship, says it is too premature to disclose exactly what may have gone wrong on the ill-fated ship noting that they “look forward to what the investigation reveals”. Company records show it underwent its last annual Coast Guard inspection in March.

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board arrived in Jacksonville on Tuesday.

Now that the NTSB investigation is underway, TOTE signed an agreement that it would not talk about any specifics related to the El Faro or its sinking. Another news briefing is scheduled for sometime Wednesday afternoon. “So he’s got to come – they all have to come back”.

The device preserves the last 12 hours of engine orders and communications from the bridge. It said it was about 35 nautical miles northeast of the Bahamas.

None of the 28 Americans or 5 Polish nationals have since been found among scattered debris that’s surfaced in the large expanse of Caribbean Ocean. “As Americans, our economic prosperity and quality of life depend upon men and women who serve aboard ships like the El Faro”.

“(It) needed a death certificate. “It was a rust bucket”, Cash said.

The crew reported the ship had previously taken on water, but all flooding had been contained.

Complicating matters, the cargo ship was outfitted with older lifeboats which are not enclosed, the source close to the investigation said.

Jeffrey Mathias, a Kingston resident and a member of the church, was on board the El Faro.

We have no doubt that these are the darkest days of TOTE’s years as an organization, and indeed, the darkest days in the memory of most seafarers. And most maritime experts have concluded that the ship sank primarily because its engine failed. Bruer said the ship had holes in its deck.

“El Yunque is almost identical to El Faro”.

Tote Maritime, said two vessels it dispatched to the scene had found a container “which appears to be from the El Faro”.

It is not clear why the captain made a decision to lead the ship into waters near Hurricane Joaquin.

Mitchell Kuflik of Brooklyn also is listed as a crew member.

“Mike was a very capable and experienced captain”, Legere said. Investigators will also try to determine if the ship lost power and was unable to move away from the hurricane.

The family of missing crew members have not given up hope that their loved ones may still be alive. May He comfort their families.

Maine Congresswoman Chellie Pingree spoke on the U.S. House floor about the tragedy before calling for a moment of slience.

“We don’t have all the answers, I’m sorry for that”.

Families have gathered at the Seafarers Union Hall Sunday Oct. 4 2015 in Jacksonville Fla. waiting for news on the crew of 33 aboard the missing cargo ship El Faro. The ship has not been heard from since it lost power and was taking on water in seas
