In Belfast, the Metropolitan College’s Titanic Quarter and Millfield campuses have been evacuated.
Dissident-linked Republican Network for Unity (RNU) had organised to picket a PSNI jobs recruitment drive in Derry’s Waterfoot Hotel tomorrow.
Policing Board chairman Anne Connolly said: “It is disappointing that the venues scheduled to host a number of PSNI information sessions for the latest recruitment campaign have been the subject of security alerts”.
“I am particularly horrified that these evil people have once again targeted the town of Omagh which has suffered so greviously at the hands of terrorists”.
Meanwhile, the Police Federation – which represents the majority of officers here, hit out at those responsible.
Ross Hussey, Ulster Unionist MLA for West Tyrone and Policing spokesperson, laid the blame on “republican terrorists”, and said: “The fact that they have chosen these venues smacks of fascism”.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Hamilton, added: “A suspicious object was found in the grounds of the Waterfoot Hotel and a controlled explosion was carried out”.

“It is high time they stop these activities and catch up with the rest of society”.
