Stats tell scary story of domestic violence

Residents are encouraged to participate in one of the many listed events and to wear purple or a purple ribbon throughout October as a way of indicating to others that ending domestic violence is important to them.

The Family Crisis Center of the Big Bend will host a number of events and activities throughout the month of October in honor of “Domestic Violence Awareness Month”.

Another way ASU is raising awareness across the university this month is through an informational video from the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, which features student athletes talking about domestic violence. Now a huge advocate, so much so that she has a “Survivor’s Class” at her year-old yoga studio called Pearll, in Franklin and donates proceeds to DASI.

DASI is a 501(c)3 private, nonprofit organization, established in 1984, providing comprehensive services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their families in Sussex County.

The dining facility opened its luncheon service to all Department of Defense identification card holders, civilians, retirees and contractors for the event.

Guest Speaker, Dr. Katrina Harden has witnessed domestic violence and has been a victim herself.

Safe Passage served 427 adults and 169 children locally during its 2015 fiscal year, Mary Ellen Schaid, Safe Passage’s executive director, said this week.
