Apple revels in record-breaking iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus sales

With so many people buying the iPhone 6S (which is not in the least bit affordable, mind you) just to have the newest version of Apple’s hardware on hand, we can safely say that Tim Cook is good at this. The company said it sold 13 million of the phones over the first weekend of sales.

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus units will be made available in more than 40 countries starting October. 9 this year.

The new figures surpass last year’s 10 million sales for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sales within the same three-day period, a trend that chief executive Tim Cook chooses to refer to as “phenomenal”.

The new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus went on sale online earlier this month and in stores for the first time on Friday, setting another record for Apple.

The massive sales figures generated over the weekend are possibly due to the release of the phone in China, which was not included previous year in the initial launch due to a number of regulatory problems, reports ABC News – problems which ultimately delayed the release of the flagship devices in the Asian superpower.

The iPhone is Apple’s largest and most profitable product segment, contributing 63.2% of revenues for Apple in Q2 2015.

Apple has also unveiled new lease and finance terms for United States customers, which analysts said could boost sales and shorten the upgrade cycle, at a time when carriers are moving away from smartphone subsidies.

Indeed, the iPhone 6S has taken the throne from the iPhone 6 Plus and demonstrated that Apple really knows that it’s doing.

3D Touch introduces new ways to navigate and experience your iPhone by sensing pressure to enable new gestures, enabling users to “peek” into apps without actually opening them.

Additionally, the new generation of iPhones are the first to come in new colour rose gold, joining the gold, silver and space grey shade options.
