President Obama visits Oregon today following mass shooting
Obama “will visit privately with families of victims of the Umpqua Community College shooting”, the White House says.

At least one parent of a student who survived the shooting said he will not meet with Obama, according to the Associated Press.
“For this president to make a political pronouncement is at best premature and at worst ignorantly inflammatory”, he said in a statement.
“He’s not wanted here”.
A service dog inside of Snyder Hall, that was alongside his owner who was shot and killed in the UCC shooting, is finally home, according to family.
The protests are expected to take place on intersections near the airport where Obama’s helicopter will touch down.
A memorial service for one of the nine victims of the Umpqua Community College shooting was held on Friday in Roseburg.
Jacques previously made his comments in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News and then on the Fox News show The O’Reilly Factor, where he urged Obama not to “stand on the corpses of our loved ones”. After 26 people were killed in the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the sheriff said he would not comply with any of the Obama administration’s gun control laws. His push for universal background checks failed in the Senate in April 2013.
Obama didn’t mention any of that tension in his brief remarks.
When being pressed about what should be done about the shootings, he said: “Look, stuff happens and the impulse is always to do something and it’s not necessarily the right thing to do”.
“It’s not that we are bloodthirsty, it’s that we want to protect ourselves and our families”, he said.

Measures being discussed by the White House include new background checks on individuals purchasing weapons from high-volume gun dealers and requiring dealers who exceed a set number of sales to obtain a license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
