Coming into the season, many pointed to today’s game at Marshall as one the Golden Eagles would, in all likelihood, lose.
But, the ultimate proof of everything going their way definitely came late in the third quarter to push that score to 31-10, when Jarquez Samuel gave us one of the best plays of the year.
Southern Miss (3-3, 1-1) had seven second-half possessions, all of which ended with a fumble, an interception or a turnover on downs.
The Golden Eagles’ touchdown drive in the first quarter against Marshall was a nine-play, 89-yarder. It was the freshman’s first career sack and marked the 14th for the Golden Eagles this season, tying the team’s total from 2014.

Southern Miss committed five turnovers Friday after committing just five in the team’s first five games of the season. Junior quarterback Nick Mullens led the visitors on an 89-yard march down the field that culminated with a 6-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Mike Thomas, his fourth of the season and fourth in the last two games.
