Lions Defense Improving, But Still Has To Face High-Scoring Cardinals

In case you missed it – and not many people in Michigan did based on the reaction around the state – the Lions’ defense played its best game of the season while the offense came to life on its final drive before falling inches short of scoring the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes to play.

Last year’s Lions went 11-5 and were a questionable call away from knocking off the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs. That’s why they win so much.

“You think about it, those guys, they could easily put up 30 points a game”.

Calvin Johnson For The Win??

Moments after the Detroit Lions lost their fourth straight game, this time on a penalty that should have been called, Lions head coach Jim Caldwell may have been too exasperated to articulate his thoughts.

In four games this season, Johnson has 27 catches, but for just 265 yards (and one touchdown). The Cardinals enter with the league’s 16th-ranked run defense allowing 107.5 yards per game, so Detroit would be well-served to keep the game within reach and attempt to provide Stafford with a few ground support.

Besides speaking after the game Monday night, Tate has not been available for interviews in the Lions’ locker room since he made those comments on the radio.

Advantage: Draw. I was ready to give the Lions the advantage here, but the addition of Levy is offset by the losses of Reid and Ngata.

“I’m not going to even go there”, Caldwell said, via the Detroit Free Press. Wright has slowly been improving as the season progresses, and we’ll likely see how he does when given a significant amount of snaps on Sunday.

The Beard is Back. I think that’s one of his greatest assets. Tensions aren’t high in Detroit. “I’ve played in Seattle 12 times in my career, I don’t care if they were “Legion of Boom”, before “Legion of Boom”, they were always tough to play in that building”.

Just in case Caldwell wasn’t clear, he re-affirmed the fact that his team would be moving on from the noncall that killed the Lions chances at winning.

On Paper either overestimated both teams’ offenses or underestimated their defenses.

The defense finally played to last year’s lofty level in the loss to Seattle.

However in the predictions article, we had a ideal guess from Singledigit. But let’s predict the Bears come into Detroit and win anyway. “You’ve got to get chunks, and there are ways to do that”.

The Cardinals come out with a decisive +6.5 advantage.

Teams like the Bengals, Jets, Cardinals, Rams, Bills …

I have to wonder if Chuck Pagano doesn’t feel like a guy on “Survivor” who is just happy he wasn’t the first one voted out now that Joe Philbin has been fired. With receivers Larry Fitzgerald, John Brown and Michael Floyd, the Cardinals can create desirable matchups on different plays, and putting Brown against Lions slot receiver Josh Wilson could spell trouble for Detroit.
