Take that, Pete Rose: Josh Donaldson homers in first at-bat
The American League MVP candidate came out as a precaution after feeling lightheaded.

Former Reds star Pete Rose, who is working for Fox Sports 1, couldn’t believe that Donaldson would leave the game because of a potential head injury. So he was removed and underwent the necessary concussion protocol. A couple of things: If you want to play the salt-cured old-school shtick, then by all means do so when it comes to leg cramps in the like. I mean, you get a tweak and you got to leave the game. You get a knee in the head, you have a helmet on, you gotta leave the game to go take a test that you have to pass because you’re a little light-headed. Here’s what Rose had to say on the postgame show about Bautista and most especially Donaldson (via @bigleaguestew)…
During the fourth inning of Thursday’s playoff game against the Rangers, Josh Donaldson collided with Rougned Odor while trying to break up a double play at second base (video here).
It goes without saying that despite Rose being one of the great players in baseball history, his comments here are pretty ridiculous.
More to the point, Rose has no idea whether he’s ever suffered a head injury like Donaldson. Times are different. Hopefully, one day Pete Rose will catch up. There was very little thought given to concussions when he was playing. His presence would provide a big boost for the Blue Jays, but the situation should be revealed prior to the game.
Tom Verducci pointed out during the broadcast that Donaldson did not look like his usual self after the contact.

We really shouldn’t care what Rose’s opinion is – except for the fact that he’s being paid to give it on television.
