Texas Southern is a historically black university founded in 1927 as the Houston Colored Junior College.
The shooting was reported at 11:30am and the campus is now on lockdown. Today’s incidents are the 46th and 47th school shootings so far this year.
One was killed and one wounded. The station reports this as the third shooting on the TSU campus within a few months – and the second time this particular complex has reported shots fired.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the shooting is the third in recent weeks on or near the TSU campus.
“How do you study and watch your back?” said Daijsa Fowls, 19.
“It’s insane. It’s broad daylight’ she said”. “It could hit anybody”. All of those involved are Texas Southern students.
“Like President Obama says, this is getting to be too regular”, Rudley said. That person’s name and condition also haven’t been released.
Earlier this week, one person was injured while on the “Tiger Walk”. In August. 2015, a man and a woman were shot after Darrius Nichols opened fire in the Blodgett-Canfield building’s parking lot. Police are still unsure whether the two incidents are linked. Rudley said classes will resume on a normal schedule Monday.

Police and emergency vehicles were at the scene, though no additional details were available. The suspected shooter was not. Management made a decision to cancel the classes and shut down the campus for rest of the day.
