Anthony DeSclafani’s fast start turned into a sour finish for the Cincinnati Reds.

Miami Marlins‘ Dee Gordon, right, scores past Cincinnati Reds catcher Brayan Pena, left, after a Giancarlo Stanton groundout in the first inning of a baseball game, Sunday, June 21, 2015, in Cincinnati. This would be the last run the Miami offense would be able to produce, however.

In the eighth, Jay Bruce plated two with his double to the wall in right and scored two batters later on Eugenio Suarez’s first double of the season. He was removed after seven innings and 95 pitches, allowing just two hits with three walks, seven strikeouts and a hit batter.

In 47 games, Byrd is batting just.212, but he’s been hot of late, hitting safely in six of eight games.

Michael Lorenzen (3-2) went seven innings and singled home a run as he won back-to-back starts for the first time in his career.

“I know I say the same word every time, but he’s just gritty and he’s gutty and he battles through”, Marlins manager Dan Jennings told MLB’s official website.

“It’s not so much that they’re out there hitting a bunch of good pitcher’s pitches, they take advantage of the mistakes the pitcher makes and he had some elevation mistakes and his slider backed up a couple of times on him”, Price said of DeSclafani, who fell to 5-5 on the season.

That gave the Reds (30-35) a much-needed day off after Frazier’s walk-off grand slam in the 13th inning Wednesday followed a rain delay of 1 hour, 20 minutes in an 8-4 win. DeSclafani came to Cincinnati in the Mat Latos trade in December.

Miami infielder Martin Prado was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with right shoulder pain sustained from his stumble over first base three days earlier.

Reds C Devin Mesoraco is scheduled to have surgery on June 29 in New York City to fix his left hip impingement.

Starlin Castro atoned for a costly error the previous night with a two-run single in the in the 10th inning on Saturday, helping the Chicago Cubs to a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Mesoraco, a 2014 All-Star, hasn’t caught since April 12 and has been on the disabled list since May 25. The 23-year-old, making an emergency start, kept stringing together scoreless innings in Miami’s 5-0 victory over the Reds at Great American Ball Park. He is expected to be ready for spring training.

The Marlins can pick up a series win when David Phelps gets the start on Sunday.

None of those hitters could do more than single against Nicolino. “I got lucky on the hit”.

“He was mad at me for throwing him three sliders”, DeSclafani said.
